Boone FCCLA presents PACK THE GYM NIGHT this Friday! Our varsity basketball teams will face Denison Schleswig, and all Boone students get in FREE. Athletes will be signing posters in addition to FREE face-painting, activities, and a photo booth. Come out for a fun night and enjoy the basketball games!
Our Hero Project at the middle school highlights the communication piece of Boone Community School District’s Portrait of a Graduate. Brody McNace is one of many students whose communication skills increased as a result of the Hero Project!
"It was a cool project. I chose my grandpa as my hero," Brody said. "I was nervous about showing my presentation and hearing my voice, but my grandpa really liked it. There was evidence of communication for Portrait of a Graduate."

Sarah Schupp, a 2017 alum, is currently a student at Des Moines University in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. Sarah started working in healthcare after completing the CNA courses offered by the Bonne High School and DMACC partnership. For five years, she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) while completing her bachelor's degree at the University of Minnesota Rochester and throughout high school.
"My favorite experience with BCSD was my time in the theater department and developing many skills that now serve me as a student doctor," shared Sarah. "Many of the teachers who impacted me have now retired, like Mrs. Bass and Mrs. Watkins. They both saw my desire to learn and helped push me towards experiences where I would be challenged and grow."

Our information nights are starting next week with preschool on Thursday, January 18th, at 5:30 p.m. By attending our information night, you are able to save your spot at Ledges Elementary! The first 50 preschool students who save their spot will receive a FREE Ledges t-shirt for their child. Signing up now helps us plan to have all the staff we need for your students!

Missing a couple days of school might not seem like a big deal, but those absences can really add up. In fact, 18 missed days of school equates to about 10% of the whole school year!
After the holidays, it can be tough to get back into the swing of things. We’d like to remind families that every day counts. If your child is struggling with their attendance, contact your school office. We’re here for you!

"I really enjoyed the project. My mom is my hero because she has always been there for me," said Tala. "I used the project as evidence of communication in my Portrait of a Graduate portfolio. I had to communicate with my hero and listen to their response. I also created a multimedia presentation."

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Cole Hilsabeck is a 2014 graduate who is currently a police officer with Iowa State University. After graduating high school, Cole attended DMACC for Criminal Justice, graduating in 2016.
Cole shares, "My favorite time at Boone Community Schools was being a part of the Student Council in high school, helping plan all the events, and giving back. One memory that sticks out the clearest is when Student Council Officers created a back-to-school video and stayed up super late filming the video the night before and ordering pizza!"

"My hero is my dad because I look up to him and he has all the qualities of a hero. My dad appreciated how genuine this project was," TJ shared. "This was a neat project because I had to use many different things I learned in reading and language arts class."
